Whakatane Adventure Race, 8th May 2010. The ultimate challenge takes place in Whakatane each year - the Whakatane Great Outdoors Adventure Race. Teams from around New Zealand compete in a gruelling and challenging race covering over 100km of rugged bush and water-ways around the Eastern Bay. R4 Cycle Race, 15 May 2010. Pinarello R4: Rotorua, Rotoiti, Rotoehu and Rotoma. Take in some of New Zealand's most beautiful scenery as you cycle from Rotorua to Whakatane. The unique 90km course has been designed to pass four stunning lakes as it winds up the undulating terrain of State Highway 30. National Woodskills Festival, 10 Sep 2010 - 12 Sep 2010. Entry forms are now online at www.kaweraudc.co.nz for the National Woodskills competition to be held September 10-12 as part of the annual Woodfest. There are some new categories this year, including Wearable Wood and novice for newbies to the art of wood crafting. Overall there are 10 categories with more than $20,000 in prize money to be won.
