Hunters Blue Mountain Blast
A Choice of Two Great Rides...
Starting at Hunters Bar cruise out of Opotiki along the scenic State Highway 35 for 13km before turning right at Waiaua onto the Motu Road. After travelling up the Motu Road for a few kilometres, turn right onto the unsealed Gaskills Road and shimmy along there for a bit then turn right onto Block Access Road. From there it’s a nice little grind uphill for 5km then the Greenhorns and the Gnarly Old Hands go their own separate ways.
GREENHORNS Novice Ride 45km
For the Greenhorns its all down hill from here. 5.5km single track to the Pakihi Road—plenty of stream cruising to keep your pedals cool…
Or take the long way home……
GNARLY OLD HANDS Advanced Ride 50km
For the Gnarly Old Hands your climb has just begun…carry on for 6km up the Mangakakaho Forestry Road before turning sharp right down King Road. Check your brakes prior to travelling the 6.5km down, down, down before meeting the greenhorns in the Pakihi Stream—mind you don't get steam burn as your breaks hit the water…
For both its 10km unsealed then 10km sealed ride down the Pakihi and Otara East Roads then back to the Finish line and Hunters Bar for a cold one and complimentary BBQ for competitors.
