Opotiki Contribution Awards

The Biennial Contribution Awards recognise and honour the many businesses, groups, projects and individuals based in the Opotiki District who contribute to the community in many ways. Their contribution may have been made in any area including sport and recreation, emergency services, early childhood education, care of children and young people, care of sick people or people with disabilities, Maori community activities, churches, conservation, events,
culture and heritage.
The Contribution Awards have been fi rmly established as an honourable community event for the Opotiki District. Past nominees, fi nalists and winners have included people from a wide variety of community and business backgrounds and age groups. These people are involved in an amazing array of activities.
Many committed and selfl ess individuals continue to make an immense contribution to our community with no expectation of reward. All too often, the efforts of such people and organisations go unrecognised. The 2009 Opotiki Contribution Awards gives you a chance to change that situation by nominating the project, business, organisation or person you believe makes an outstanding contribution in the Opotiki District.
The Opotiki Contribution Awards will be presented by Mayor John Forbes and Pio Terei at a formal awards evening held at the Opotiki De Luxe Theatre on June 20, 2009. Tickets and nomination forms can be collected from the Opotiki Information Centre.

BEST COMMUNITY PROJECT
A community project that has made a
signifi cant difference to the Opotiki District.
OPOTIKI BUSINESS AWARD
Recognises the vital contribution that a
business or business person makes to grow
our local economy.
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT
An achievement at National or International
level by an individual or group.
HORIZON ENERGY’S MOST DESERVING
YOUTH ACHIEVER
An achiever under 18 who
has excelled in any fi eld.
Horizon Energy will sponsor the winner of this
award to a signifi cant leadership program
such as Outward Bound to the value of $3500.
BEST COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER GROUP
A volunteer group that has made a signifi cant
difference to the Opotiki District
YOUTH VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
An individual youth volunteer under the age
of 18 who has truly made a difference to
others.
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
An individual volunteer who has truly made a
difference to others.
OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY
CONTRIBUTION AWARD
Recognising the vital contribution by any
person in the community who doesn’t fi t into
the above categories. This could be by way
of going beyond their call of duty in their
employment or by providing sponsorship or
assistance to the Opotiki District.
