ONE man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

And proof was at last years inaugural Radio 1XX Trash or Treasure event.

According to Trash or Treasure coordinator Sandie Dixon the event will be the biggest combined garage-sale, white elephant stall, second-hand shop and craft fair that has ever been seen in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

“From hessian dog beds to radiator caps to artworks, furniture and tools, new and used items, books and clothes - you name it and you’ll see it at Trash or Treasure,” Ms Dixon says.

“It’s going to be a brilliant opportunity for traders from around the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />North Island to buy, sell and exchange second-hand and new items of any description.

“People can offload household items that have been gathering dust, businesses can sell their excess stock, volunteer groups can have a stall to raise funds, and everyone will be able to find a huge array of bargains - just in time for Christmas.”.

At a flat stall rate Ms Dixon says, it’s a great deal, considering the amount of free advertising and the number of shoppers who will attend.

With space for between 700 and 800 stalls Trash or Treasure is sure to be a treasure-hunter’s delight.

The Annual Opotiki Rodeo is not to be missed. It features spectacular horse and western type events and is commended by the competing cowboys & girls to be one of the best in New Zealand.

The Open Bull Ride starts at 2pm sharp. Carries a $1,000 purse (prize money). The cowboys ride a 700kg bull - bred especially for bucking. This is one of the highest paying events on the national circuit attracting around 200 competitors from the South Island and Australia and over 4,000 spectators. The special event over lunch time are the Cutting Horses - this is a demonstration of how horses are trained to draft 1 animal from a group of animals without it being roped or penned.

There are amusements, food and drink stands, and clothing and tack (saddlery), available for purchase. Great entertainment for all ages.
